Courtney Williams Named SEC Co-Player of the Week

BIRMINGTHAM, Ala.- Texas A&M women’s basketball senior guard/forward Courtney Williams was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Williams had A&M’s first 30+ point game since 2013 in a win over then-No. 16 Cal on Friday.

This is the first SEC Player of the Week honor of Williams’ career, and marks the second straight week a Texas A&M player has been honored by the league.Courtney Walker earned SEC Co-Player of the Week honors a week ago. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that A&M has won conference player of the week awards in back-to-back weeks (Danielle Adams, Dec. 13 & Dec. 20).

Williams averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and shot 53.3% from the field against two ranked teams, and was named to the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout All-Tournament Team last week.

Williams scored a career-high 32 points against the Golden Bears, leading the Aggies to a 75-58 win, the most for an A&M player against a ranked team since Jan. 20, 2001. With just over 13 minutes left in the game, Williams’ 28 points matched Cal’s total as a team. It was the first 30+ point game of Williams’ career and the second by any SEC player this year.

The Houston, Texas native scored 21 points against then-No. 11 Ohio State, but it was not enough as the Aggies fell 95-80. She had 10 first quarter points, helping the Aggies build a 19-4 lead that they could not hold.

Williams shared the honor with A’ja Wilson of South Carolina.

The No. 12 Aggies return to action at 9 p.m. CT on Friday, December 4 at the Tom Weston Invitational in Laie, Hawai’i against Hawai’i.
