COLLEGE STATION, Texas – First-Team All-SEC performer Danuel House scored a game-high 15 points as the Maroon squad earned a 48-34 victory Wednesday night during Texas A&M men’s basketball’s annual Maroon & White Scrimmage.
“You saw some sloppy play but that was to be expected this time of year,” fifth-year Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy said. “We actually practiced earlier today and all this week. I was really glad to see Daniel House back on the floor and looking really healthy. You could tell he was our best player last year and was our best player today. I thought Tonny Trocha-Morelos was really good. He continues to get better and I think he is going to help our team a bunch.”
House, who went 5-for-6 from the field, was joined in double-digit scoring byAlex Caruso, DJ Hogg and Tavario Miller, who each chipped in 10 points during the scrimmage which featured two 12-minute periods.
“It was fun,” House said. “We just tried to focus mainly on defense, staying positive and sharing the ball with each other. [Also,] Not trying to be selfish or not trying to be outside ourselves because we have talent in every spot.”
Rookie Admon Gilder contributed nine points and four assists while classmate Tyler Davis tallied six points and pulled down seven boards. Second-year guard Alex Robinson finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Trocha-Morelos added six points and six rebounds with two blocks.
“We have more depth than we’ve had in the past and we have guys who can score,” Kennedy added. “Admon has been really good for us on both ends of the floor and you can see D.J. is capable of making shots on the perimeter.”
The final preamble to the regular season takes place next Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. when the Aggies host Texas A&M International in exhibition action at Reed Arena. The season gets underway in earnest on Nov. 13 when USC Upstate comes to Aggieland.
