UPDATE: The Brazos County burn ban was lifted Monday afternoon.
The number of Texas counties banning outdoor burning amid dry conditions has dropped after a weekend of heavy rain.
The Texas A&M Forest Service on Wednesday reported about 80 counties still had outdoor burn bans in effect.
That compares to more than 140 of the state’s 254 counties banning outdoor burning last Friday, as storms began to soak parts of Texas.
Burn ban orders are established by county judges and/or county commissioners. The Texas A&M Forest Service displays the information online as a public service.
