COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M volleyball players Stephanie Aiple (pronounced EYE-plee) and Kiara McGee both were honored by the Southeastern Conference today, with Aiple garnering SEC Setter of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week and McGee being name the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after leading the Aggies to a three-set sweep against LSU in A&M’s only match last week.
Aiple, a sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, had 40 assists for a 13.33 per set average while leading Texas A&M to its fourth consecutive win, including its first-ever home victory against LSU in SEC play. Her 40 assists is the second most by an A&M player in a three-set match this season.
Aiple ranks second in the league and 16th in the nation with 11.36 assists per set for the full season. In addition, she has propelled the A&M offense to a No. 1 team ranking in the SEC team statistics for assists per set in all matches (12.99), as well as a No. 1 conference rating in hitting efficiency (.308) and assists (13.37) and kills (14.37) per set in SEC matches only.
McGee, a sophomore from San Antonio, averaged 5.33 points per set while taking match-high honors with 13 kills in the 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 win against the Tigers. Her .476 hitting percentage is a career high when posting 10 or more kills. McGee also had three blocks — including one solo — to finish with 16.0 points as the Aggies closed out a three-match home stand that resulted in three consecutive sweeps.
McGee is hitting .208 and averaging .271 kills and 3.06 points per set for the full season. In SEC matches only, The Taft High School product is hitting .253 and averaging 2.84 kills and 3.18 points per set.
The Aggies (13-6, 6-2 SEC), whose four-match win streak equals their longest of the season, hit the road this weekend, taking on 20th-ranked and league leader Kentucky Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington and facing Tennessee, Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (CT) at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. The match against the Wildcats will be broadcast on the SEC Network, and the match against the Lady Vols will be streamed on SEC Network +.
