A&M Women’s Hoop Steal One Late Over Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Achiri Ade made a buzzer-beating put-back to give No. 5 Texas A&M a 52-50 win over Arkansas in a women’s basketball game at Bud Walton Arena.

Ade grabbed a rebound off of a Jordan Jones miss with two seconds remaining, then put the ball back in, putting Texas A&M (14-2, 2-0 SEC) at 2-0 in SEC play for the third time in three years as a member of the league.

Ade finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds, giving her a double-double in back-to-back games for the first time in her two-year A&M career. The shot was Ade’s first game-winning shot in the last minute of regulation or overtime in her career—although she hit a clutch shot to tie the game with 29.4 s vs. Texas on Dec. 21.

Courtney Walker scored with 54 seconds left to put A&M up 50-48, but Arkansas’ Jessica Jackson, who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, responded with a layup with 31.3 remaining to set up Ade’s game-winning shot.

Courtney Williams led the Aggies with 18 points, marking her seventh game this season with 18-or-more points. Jordan Jones added six assists, and moved into sixth on Texas A&M’s career assists list, passing Beth Young (1983-87).

Arkansas (10-4, 0-2 SEC) took a 28-25 lead after the first half, taking advantage of a strong performance from Kelsey Brooks, who had 12 of her 15 points in the opening stanza.

The Aggies head to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on No. 8 Tennessee at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 8 on SEC Network. Texas A&M returns home to Reed Arena on Jan. 11 to host LSU at 12 p.m.
