Local prosecutors used a state law passed in 2009 for the first time to convict a man of assaulting his girlfriend in College Station last May then again in Fort Worth two months later.

According to a news release from the Brazos County District Attorney’s office, a jury this week found 23 year old Chad McFadden guilty of both attacks under the new continious family violence since one of the incidents was local.

Then the judge, who had given probation for a third assault of a different woman last year, ordered McFadden to serve a two year sentence before starting an eight year prison term for this year’s assaults.

McFadden, according to prosecutors, contended he was protecting himself against attacks from his girlfriends.

During sentencing, Judge Travis Bryan told McFadden he was a “liar, a bully, and an abuser of women.”

And prosecutors thanked the jury for convicting a man they consider “a violent individual who has consistently abused women.”
