UT beats A&M in Regular Season Finale

AUSTIN, Texas — Kelsey Bone, Sydney Carter and Tyra White scored 13 points apiece but No. 17/13 Texas A&M fell short in a 79-64 loss at Texas Sunday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center.

Yvonne Anderson scored a career-high 25 points and dished out nine assists to the lead Texas (18-12, 8-10). Chasidy Fussell added 19.

The Aggies (20-9, 11-7) were swept by the Longhorns for the first time since the 2004-05 season.

Carter added 11 points and Bone grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for A&M.

Nneka Enemkplai added a career-best 14 rebounds for the Longhorns, who won three straight to close the season and keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive.

In a back-and-forth first half that saw nine lead changes and seven ties, the Aggies shot 52 percent, but Texas took a 39-34 lead into the locker room.

Texas extended its lead to 48-38 in the first 3:23 of the second half. The Aggies managed to close the gap to 6 points, 49-43, with 13:27 remaining, and again to 7, 62-55, with 6:06 to go, but would get no closer as the Longhorns led by as many as 21 with just over a minute left.

Up next, the Aggies will play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship beginning on Thursday, March 8.
