COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 2015 Texas A&M Aggies were unveiled on Saturday evening with a Legacy Game in front of 1,500 fans at Ellis Field. The Maroon toppled the White, 1-0, in a 40-minute match.
McKayla Paulson scored the game’s only goal with 4:32 remaining in the first half. The tally came on a corner kick from the left arc. Haley Pounds delivered the ball to the near post where Paulson put it into the back of the net.
The Maroon were close to converting on two more attempts. With 6:10 remaining in the first half, Mikaela Harvey hit the right post from 12 yards out. Five minutes into the second half, Karlie Mueller had a free kick from just outside the penalty box sending a low driving ball that forced Mia Hummel to make a diving save.
At halftime of the match 30 alumni in town for the Legacy Game were recognized, including a handful of players from Coach G Guerrieri’s initial squad from 1993.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday when the Maroon and White host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a 7 pm exhibition match at Ellis Field.
TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach G Guerrieri
On what he saw in the match: “I was pleased with what I saw. The freshmen that were out there played well. They good and put to use some of the things they were taught the first week of training. The veterans did what we expected them to do. We were pleased all the way around.”
On the crowd: “It was great to have that kind of support. You aren’t going to find many places that get 1,500 fans to come out for an intrasquad scrimmage. They provided a really great atmosphere for both our newcomers and the alumni that were on hand.”
On the Legacy Day: “We had a great day reconnecting with the players who laid the foundation for this program as well as recent players that have raised the bar for this program. We had a luncheon today where the alumni was able to bond with the current team and pass along insight and words of wisdom.”
