News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:
Judge Steve Smith of the 361st District Court sentenced Brandon Erskine, 30, of Bryan, to 20 years in prison for multiple cases including drug dealing, unlawful possession of a firearm, theft of
a firearm, and bail jumping.
Erskine faced 23 separate charges dating back to 2012, including 12 felonies. In 2012, Erskine was charged with possession of cocaine. Erskine was released on bond and was arrested again in 2013 for evading arrest in a vehicle and possession of cocaine. Erskine made bond a second time, but was arrested months later after police again found him to be in possession of cocaine, as well as marijuana.
In 2016, he was charged with manufacture and delivery of cocaine, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon after another arrest. Erskine again posted bond and was released from jail. Prosecutors, however, filed a motion to revoke Erskine’s bonds, due to his continuous criminal activity.
When Erskine was due to appear in court on the prosecutors’ motion, he failed to appear. As a result, prosecutors charged Erskine with the felony offense of Bail Jumping.
Police located Erskine and arrested him in January of 2018. During that arrest, Bryan Police officers once again found Erskine in possession of cocaine and with another firearm.
He was charged with additional counts of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was also charged with a family violence assault that occurred while he was a fugitive.
Once caught and in the Brazos County Jail, Erskine chose to enter a plea of guilty to all charges pending against him. He received two sentences of 20 years in prison for the manufacture and delivery cases, three 10 year sentences, the maximum allowed by law, for the unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and bail jumping cases, and six additional maximum sentences for his various state jail felony and misdemeanor cases.
These cases were investigated by members of the Bryan Police Department and the Bryan City Marshalls.
