1st Time in 18 Years Brazos County Replacing County Engineer

For the first time in 18 years, Brazos County Commissioners are in the process of selecting a new County Engineer.

That’s the person responsible for maintaining hundreds of miles of roads and thousands of bridges and other structures, along with issuing rural building permits and keeping up trash collection.

County Judge Duane Peters says two of four finalists have been interviewed and two more are on the schedule this week.

Peters says he would be happy getting a clone to follow Richard Vance, who retired earlier this year.

The judge says there were no internal candidates because none held the required civil engineering degree. But Peters expects who they hire will have people skills and experience dealing with state and federal officials.
