CLEVELAND, Texas (AP) _ Four youths have been detained after 16 Central Texas students got sick from taking anti-anxiety pills not prescribed to them.
Stacey Gatlin with the Cleveland Independent School District said Wednesday that four juveniles are expected to be charged with possession or delivery of a controlled substance.
She declined to say whether the four were among 16 Cleveland High School students who became ill following lunch Tuesday.
Gatlin says all 16 students apparently knew that they were taking someone else’s pills. Authorities are seeking the source of the medication.
Gatlin says nine students were treated and released from a hospital in Cleveland, about 45 miles northeast of Houston. Seven were treated at school.
Some of the students returned to class Wednesday. All could face penalties ranging from suspension to expulsion.
