HOUSTON (AP) _ One person is dead and several are hospitalized with wounds after an apparent drive-by shooting at a football field at a Houston high school.
The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the football field at Worthing High School in southern Houston. Police spokesman John Cannon had no specific figure on the number of people taken to hospitals, but Homicide Lt. John Zitzmann told reporters at the scene that five others were wounded.
No identities were available.
Witnesses told police that the victims were watching their girlfriends play an informal football game when a car drove onto the field, several people got out and started shooting.
Zitzmann said witnesses believed the shooting was gang-related.
