Bryan Broadcasting is one of the partners in the Texas A&M system’s decision to host a July 4th fireworks show at the RELLIS campus.
WTAW’s FM station at 94.5 will be playing patriotic music that will be synced to the show.
Chancellor John Sharp says the the idea of a drive-in fireworks event followed the cancellation of other shows.
And the RELLIS campus provides ample parking to provide social distancing.
News release from the Texas A&M university system:
The Texas A&M University System is hosting a large-scale, drive-in style Fourth of July fireworks show at the sprawling RELLIS Campus in Bryan.
Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp is inviting the community to celebrate the national holiday safely.
“After many of the traditional Fourth of July fireworks shows were cancelled, it was mentioned that the expansive RELLIS Campus might be an excellent location for a celebration that would allow social distancing,” said Chancellor Sharp. “From that conversation came the idea of a drive-in fireworks event.”
The free community event will begin at 9 p.m. with patriotic music provided by WTAW at 94.5 FM and synced to the fireworks. The parking area will open at 7:30 p.m. to allow guests to select a viewing area from their vehicles.
Guests are encouraged to practice social distancing, including remaining with their vehicles during the show, wearing face masks when appropriate, maintaining six feet of distance between others and staying home if feeling ill.
“Bring your family. All we ask is stay with your vehicle and stay safe. Who knows? Drive-In Fireworks may become the new tradition,” said Chancellor Sharp.
The fireworks show will also be featured on the local TV station, KBTX, for those who are unable to attend in-person.
Co-sponsors of the event include: The Texas A&M University System, the Chancellor’s Century Council, the City of Bryan, SSC, KBTX-TV, WTAW and the Eagle.
