The Dixie Chicken, one of Aggieland’s most iconic businesses, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend.

Spokesman Adam Drake says it’s more than just a restaurant and bar.

“It is kind of a museum of its own. You look around the walls and there are carvings and writings from the 70s and the 80s,” says Drake.

During College Station’s city council meeting on May 23rd, Mayor John Nichols issued a proclamation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic Northgate business.

To celebrate the milestone, the Dixie Chicken is hosting a free concert on Friday afternoon.

The lineup includes Aggie artists Hayden Baker, Donice Morace, Keller Cox, Dub Miller, and Max & Heather Stalling.

“This is the Dixie Chicken’s present to everybody who has supported us and loved us and been a part of the Dixie Chicken for the last 50 years,” says Drake.

Friday’s concert starts at 4:15 p.m. on the Northgate Promenade.
