Abilene Christian Falls in a Nail Biter

ATLANTA (AP) _ Georgia State won for the first time as an FBS member when they beat Abilene Christian 38-37 last night. Georgia State snapped a 16-game losing streak. The Panthers’ last victory came in October 2012 at Rhode Island. Parker McKenzie threw for 403 yards and four scores for Abilene Christian.

Rangers Clobber Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) _ Rougned Odor hit a third-inning grand slam to back Colby Lewis as the last-place Texas Rangers beat Seattle 12-4 yesterday. Erasmo Ramirez allowed 10 runs and nine hits in three-plus innings. Seattle had been the only major league team not to allow 10 or more runs in a game this season.

Texans Cut 9

HOUSTON (AP) _ Receivers Joe Adams and Alec Lemon are among nine players released by the Houston Texans yesterday. The Texans also placed offensive tackle David Quessenberry on the reserve/non-football illness list as he battles lymphoma. Houston waived William Powell, Sam Longo, David Hunter, Austin Brown, Terrance Lloyd and Lawrence Sidbury and Junior Mertile.
