The College Station and Bryan fire departments are participating in the governor’s plan to have local firefighters assist in providing coronavirus testing at nursing homes.
College Station firefighters will document if residents and staff have been tested within the last 30 days. If requested or if necessary, CSFD paramedics will assist in testing residents and staff. The department’s medical director is developing testing protocols for the paramedics. And College Station’s emergency management coordinator is acquiring the test kits and protective equipment.
The Bryan fire department is working with the Brazos County health district to assess the needs to assist locally licensed nursing homes. Fire chief Randy McGregor says many have already completed testing, and others are scheduled to do the same very soon.
According to the governor’s office, costs associated with providing tests are eligible for federal reimbursement.
