There were at least five structure fire calls in and around Bryan/College Station on Sunday.
South of downtown Bryan, a resident of a home on Roberts Street tells firefighters he will extinguish his charcoal grill in the future. That’s after hot coals started a fire that damaged a shed. The resident told BFD investigators a neighbor alerted him to the fire. The coals were dumped the day after he used them, in a pile that he had used for years.
The worst of four fires reported to College Station firefighters was a multifamily structure on Manuel Sunday night where four living units were impacted by fire, smoke, and water damage. A cooking oil fire took 20 minutes to get under control. No injuries were reported.
There was an oven fire Sunday evening on Brussels Drive…east of Edelweiss Park…that was caused by an electrical short in the oven. The fire did not spread past the oven.
College Station firefighters began four calls in nine hours by providing mutual aid east of town off Elmo Weedon Road to a home on Timberwilde.
The last call was on Dominik, where firefighters saw flames from a barbecue pit reflecting off a window and causing concern from neighbors. Those in charge of the barbecue were asked to move their pit away from the structure.
