Aggie Track & Field Athletes at U.S. Olympic Team Trials

EUGENE – Texas A&M track & field’s Ja’Qualon Scott broke the 110m hurdles school record on the fourth day of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Monday at Hayward Field.

Opening his Olympic Trials campaign, Scott put the nation on notice as he shattered the A&M 110m hurdles school record with a personal-best time of 13.15 in the first round. His mark downed Wayne Davis II’s 10-year-old record which previously stood at 13.20, he also secured the Olympic standard for the event and advanced to the semifinals fifth overall. Connor Schulman followed Scott’s lead and ensured his advancement into the next round of the meet after crossing the line in 13.38.

Two-time Olympic medalist Bryce Deadmon finished fifth in the men’s 400m final with a time of 44.61, this enters Deadmon into the United States 4x400m relay pool for Paris.

The reigning NCAA champion in the women’s heptathlon, Timara Chapman, logged an eighth-place result in the event with her fourth-consecutive total over 6,000 points (6,073). Shaina Burns also ended the championships 16th with 5,488 points.

Will Williams wrapped up his trials in the long jump final, finishing ninth in the with a leap of 7.76m/25-5.25.

Athing Mu took the track in the women’s 800m final, however at the 200m mark she was involved in a collision knocking her to the back of the pack which resulted in a ninth-place finish for the reigning Olympic champion.

The Aggies return to Hayward Field Thursday for the fifth day of competition at trials where Sam Whitmarsh and Brandon Miller open their 800m campaigns. They are followed by Scott and Schulman in the 110m hurdle semifinals, Camryn Dickson in the 200m first round, James Smith in the men’s 400m hurdles, Shamier Little and Deshae Wise in the women’s 400m hurdles and finally Fred Kerley in the 200m opening round.
