College Station School Board Approves New Elementary School Boundaries

Update, October 16 2018:

College Station school board members Tuesday night approved new elementary school boundaries beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.

Tuesday night’s unanimous vote followed adjusted recommendations made last week by administrators.

Michael Wesson, who made the motion, noted the volume of community input.

Geralyn Nolan referred to the experience of one of her children changing schools this year.

The vote also includes the administration’s original grandfathering recommendation. Any third grader choosing to stay at their present campus next year will be responsible for their own transportation.

The new boundaries take into account the opening of River Bend elementary and adjustments at other campuses to either increase or decrease student populations.

Original story, October 9 2018:

College Station ISD administrators presented changes to its initial recommendations to change elementary school boundaries during a board of trustees workshop Monday evening.

A final vote will be considered when the board holds their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on October 16. A board workshop scheduled for the 15th was cancelled.

All seven board members supported the administration’s changes, which were all the result of public input.

That includes three requests by parents to not move their children.

One request in the updated recommendations keeps 20 students in the Castlegate one addition east of Victoria at Forest Ridge instead of being moved to Spring Creek.

The second request keeps 54 students in Edelweiss Gartens at their present schools…Rock Prairie and Creek View…instead of being moved to River Bend.

The third request keeps seven students on Iris Creek and Hidden Acres at Greens Prairie instead of being moved to River Bend.

Administrators also recommended 67 students living in apartments north and east of the intersection of Wellborn Road and Southwest Parkway to move to River Bend from Forest Ridge.

Board members also showed no opposition to keeping the proposed grandfathering recommendation, which would apply only to this year’s third graders.
