College Station ISD School Board Members Award A Contract For Bond Funded Middle School Football Stadium Improvements
Construction starts soon on another part of College Station ISD’s bond issue from November 2023. A $12 million dollar contract for improvements at middle school stadiums was awarded at the September regular meeting of the CSISD school board. CSISD facilities director Paul Buckner says the work to begin after the fall sports season includes converting grass football fields to artificial turf at all three middle schools. Track surfaces will be replaced at Wellborn and College Station middle schools. Buckner says a large contingency was added to that part of the budget. Consolidated and College Station middle schools are getting new concession and restroom buildings and an expansion of the concession/restroom building takes place at Wellborn. The contract also includes additional seating at all three middle schools. Stadium lighting is being replaced at Consolidated and College Station middle schools. The contract also includes new security fencing that will be paid from a safety grant. Click HERE to read and download a memo on the project. Two People Arrested For Committing Two Armed Robberies At The Same College Station Hotel
Two people have been arrested in separate armed robberies that took place at the same College Station motel. Arrest reports from College Station police say on September 8th, the first victim reported being threatened with a gun and a taser. And that victim said the suspects threatened to harm family members if they contacted law enforcement. On September 9th, an Uber driver was struck on the head several times with a gun. That victim remembered the phone number used to order the ride taken by the other suspect. Tracing the phone number and the name of the person who rented a room led to finding 42 year old Tashawna Franklin of College Station. Further investigation identified the second suspect, 33 year old Mark Timothy Roberts, whose hometown is not known. A CSPD spokesman tells WTAW News that Franklin and Roberts were arrested last Wednesday (September 18) in the Houston area. As of September 23rd, both remain held in the Harris County jail. Harris County online records show Franklin’s bond was set at $75,000 dollars. Roberts is held on a $30,000 dollar bond and a hold on a motion to revoke parole.
Resignation On The Blinn College Board Of Trustees Is Filled
A vacancy on the Blinn College board of trustees has been filled. The senior member of the trustees, retired Brenham newspaper publisher Charles Moser, submitted his resignation August 29th effective September 18th. The resignation became public when the college published the agenda of the board’s September 17th meeting. Trustees made no public comments about the resignation or the process to fill the vacancy. After the board at its September 17th meeting returned from an executive session, executive vice chancellor Leighton Schubert explained how to make the motion to fill the vacancy. That was followed by the board’s unanimous vote to appoint recently retired Blinn administrator Richard O’Malley to fill Moser’s term, which ends in May of 2025. O’Malley, who joins former Blinn vice president Dennis Crowson on the board. Crowson made the motion, saying O’Malley “brings about a unique set of characteristics that will be beneficial to this board.” O’Malley retired in January 2024 following a 16-year career. O’Malley last served as Blinn’s assistant vice chancellor of facilities, planning, and construction. Click below to hear comments from the September 17, 2024 Blinn College trustees meeting.
