Public comments during Tuesday’s (September 17) Brazos County commission meeting included questions about a $135,000 dollar contract with the sheriff’s office regarding drones. The county’s purchasing agent, Charles Wendt, and the commission’s general counsel, Bruce Erratt, says the contract is about detecting drones above the jail and not about the sheriff’s office flying drones. Erratt also said the software is supposed to protect against drones collecting information about security measures being taken at the sheriff’s office and jail. The second year superintendent of College Station ISD repeats at this week’s school board meeting, on the eve of the Consolidated-College Station High School football game, how students excel at both campuses. The shoutout from Tim Harkrider included thanks to teachers. Tim Harkrider said anyone who becomes immune to how special the student performance is at both high schools in all categories, should Google other districts with two high schools. Harkrider says CSISD is the only district with two comprehensive high schools that he knows of where students at both campuses perform at a high level. On Thursday (September 19), CSISD announced the crosstown football showdown is sold out. You can listen to the Consol broadcast on WTAW 1620/94.5, the College Station High broadcast on Maverick 100.9, and online at both station’s websites. College Station police announce an arrest of a man accused of breaking into an apartment last Friday (September 13) and committing an aggravated sexual assault of a woman who is over 65 years old. The CSPD arrest report says the victim awakened to find a stranger in her bedroom. After the man threatens to kill her, he sexually assaults her. When the man leaves the bedroom, the woman locks the bedroom door, starts yelling, and hits the bedroom window so hard it breaks. Neighbors who heard the noise call 9-1-1. While the man got away from last Friday’s attack, he was arrested Thursday (September 18) on charges of burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit a sex offense, aggravated sexual assault, and evidence tampering. The CSPD arrest report says 27 year old Various McNeal lives in the same apartment complex as the victim. He was identified by a fingerprint that was found on the window he used to enter the victim’s apartment. McNeal is jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $958,000 dollars.
