WTAW’s Tom Turbiville Announces Retirement

Tom Turbiville

He’s been a part of the Bryan Broadcasting family for 19 years, but now sports director Tom Turbiville is hanging up his headphones.

Turbiville announced his retirement on The Infomaniacs on Monday. His last day on the air is August 17.

Tom and his wife, Judy, plan to relocate to Nebraska to be closer to family.

His departure leaves several vacancies at Bryan Broadcasting and in the community. Along with Tom’s morning and afternoon sports anchoring duties at WTAW, he also hosts Bravo Brazos Valley, a daily program highlighting local people and their efforts to brighten the community.

His passion for veterans and their stories led to his hosting “Veterans of the Valley” on KAMU-DT. Tom hosts a similar segment on KBTX-DT.

You have also likely heard him on Texas A&M football broadcasts as the sideline reporter for home games.

(This reporter has had the privilege of working with Tom in some capacity for about 15 years. I first worked with Tom on the Children’s Miracle Network radiothon in the late 1990s. Although he worked for a competing station at the time, Tom still volunteered because it was an important cause to him.

It is that genuine nature that best defines Tom Turbiville. His wit and humor will be greatly missed on the radio, but his absence from the Bryan-College Station community will leave a tremendous void. I am honored to call him a friend. – Chace Murphy)
