World War II Veterans Memorial Dedicated on Pearl Harbor Day

The 70th anniversary of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor was the backdrop of the dedication of the first statue of the World War II memorial at Veterans Park in College Station.

The “Day of Infamy” statue, depcting military aviators, was created by J. Payne Lara of Navasota.

The chairman of the design committee for the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial, Steve Beachy, says four more statues are planned. They will recognize the Marine Corps, all soldiers, all sailors, and the U.S. homefront.
