GALVESTON, Texas (AP) _ A 44-year-old Galveston accountant, who broke her right leg while chasing and catching a man accused of snatching her friend’s purse, is recovering at a hospital.
Jacqueline Boss and Heidi Lawrence were dining Tuesday at a Galveston restaurant when Lawrence, 32, went to the restroom, leaving her purse on the table.
The Houston Chronicle reports Boss’ mother Jeannette Westerman said her daughter had been watching a man about 20 feet away.
The man snatched the purse and Boss chased him, even as he jumped over a 5-foot fence behind the restaurant.
Boss told The Galveston County Daily News that she grabbed his T-shirt and five men helped hold him down.
Authorities say a woman whose purse had been snatched from a different restaurant identified him as the same suspect.
Police charged Joshua Griffin, of Galveston, with two counts of theft.
Griffin, 21, was released Wednesday from the Galveston County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
Boss had an operation for her right leg, which broke just below the knee.
