Brazos County Commissioners Are Considering A $61 Million Dollar Redevelopment Of The Site Of The Former Bryan ISD Administration Building

Brazos County commissioners are told it will take $61 million dollars to redevelop the land across Texas Avenue from the courthouse, where the former Bryan ISD administration building will be imploded this summer. Commissioners expressed no opposition during Tuesday’s meeting (May 7) to recommendations made by the county’s project manager. Trevor Lansdown presented plans for a three story building that would be occupied by the precinct 4 justice of the peace and constable’s departments, adult probation, and the public defender’s office. The new building will also have its own parking garage. Lansdown says that is to keep employees from having to cross Texas to get to the Roy Kelly parking garage. There will also be a skywalk over Texas connecting the new building to the courthouse. Lansdown said that is because people working in the new building have regular business in the courthouse. County commissioner Steve Aldrich asked Lansdown to contact the owner of property east of the former BISD site to gauge their interest in selling their land to the county. Bryan ISD School Board Deliberates Five Issues Behind Closed Doors Then Takes Action On One Item

Another economic development prospect has approached the Bryan ISD school board for incentives. That was one of five items scheduled for discussion in private during Monday’s (May 6) board meeting. After a 75 minute executive session, the board voted on one of two student matters. No details were provided about Mark McCall’s motion to proceed with a possible settlement of a possible lawsuit involving a special education student. Everything we are able to say was included in the motion.” The other student matter discussed in private was not identified. The remaining executive session items, according to the meeting agenda, were “Discuss Issues Pertaining to Appointment, Employment, Evaluation, Reassignment, Duties, Discipline, or Dismissal of a Public Officer or Employee – Texas Government Code Chapter 551.074” and “Discuss Issues Related to the Purchase, Exchange, Lease, or Value of Real Property – Texas Government Code 551.072”.

Bryan Police Arrests Of Repeat Offenders

Bryan police learn that a man arrested in the middle of the night for a car burglary south of Stephen F. Austin middle school was also wanted on a warrant charging him with aggravated sexual assault of a child in February of last year. The BPD arrest report says the mother of the car owner came home around 1:40 Wednesday morning (May 8) to find the suspect inside her son’s car. The suspect was found about 20 minutes later and three blocks from the burglary. 26 year old Jeremiah Botley, who denied entering any vehicles in the neighborhood, was released from a state prison after being sentenced in November 2023 to 13 months for felony theft of a firearm and 180 days in the county jail for two vehicle burglaries and evading arrest. Botley remained jailed as of May 9 in lieu of bonds totaling $52,000 dollars. A Bryan police officer driving past a pickup without headlights last Saturday night (May 4) at ten p.m. led to a Bryan man’s 40th trip to the Brazos County jail since 2002. 54 year old William Charles Johnson Jr. was charged with DWI with two prior convictions and evading arrest. The BPD arrest report says Johnson drove about five blocks before stopping in his driveway. He got out of his truck after repeated requests from family members. Court records show that the prior Monday (April 29), Johnson was fined after pleading guilty for the ninth time since 2007 for driving with an invalid license. Johnson remained jailed as of May 9 in lieu of bonds totaling $80,000 dollars.
