Students at Southwood Valley Elementary in College Station do not have school on Thursday.
According to a City of College Station news release, crews started work on a water line repair near the school Wednesday afternoon.
Water service was also shut off to homes in the 2700 block of Brothers Boulevard and the 1300 block of Deacon Drive.
The statement did not say what time water service would return on Thursday.
Brazos County commissioners vote four to one to award a construction contract to build a four floor office building and a four floor parking garage that will be connected to the courthouse by a skywalk over Texas Avenue. Among those voting to award the contract, commissioners Bentley Nettles, Chuck Konderla, and Wanda Watson told two public speakers who wanted more detailed costs that they were confident the construction company can complete the project within the guaranteed maximum price of $59 million dollars. County judge Duane Peters also voted to award the contract, while commissioner Fred Brown voted no. The county’s construction project manager, Trevor Lansdown, said construction will start as soon as April 6 and completion is projected for May of 2028. The first floor will be occupied by the precinct four constable and justice of the peace, the second floor will be the new home of adult probation, the third floor will remain unfinished for future offices, and the fourth floor will be the new public defender’s office. The Bryan ISD school board selects architects for three more major projects associated with last November’s $397 million dollar bond issue. The total budget for the new Collegiate building is almost $49 million dollars and the budget for the combined Bryan/Rudder High project is $98 million. College Station police respond to a report of a 15 month old girl walking around an apartment complex unsupervised during the noon hour on Wednesday (March 25). That led to the arrest of the common law husband of the toddler’s mother on a charge of child abandonment. The CSPD arrest report says 25 year old Andres Toxqui-Toxqui told an officer that he, his brother, and the child’s mother all knew the child would be alone for four hours. The child’s mother and uncle were not arrested. Jail records also show Toxqui is being held for immigration authorities. Bond on the child abandonment charge was set at $10,000 dollars. College Station police discover none of an estimated 20 people at an apartment pool Wednesday night (March 25) were residents of the complex. When an officer told the crowd, some who were smoking marijuana, that they were not allowed to leave, one man ran away. CSPD’s Facebook page says 18 year old Kiuntius Venters of Bryan was caught following a short chase and was in possession of a stolen handgun and an undisclosed amount of marijuana. As of March 26th, Venters remains jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $6,000 dollars on charges of evading arrest and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The 21st time a College Station man is taken to the Brazos County jail in 25 years, the College Station police arrest report says it is after he gives his cell phone to a woman to record his apprehension because he tells a College Station police officer he didn’t feel safe around the officer. The arrest early Thursday morning (March 26) was after 42 year old Gilberto Trevino led the officer on a four and a half mile pursuit that ended at his home. The CSPD officer was attempting to stop Trevino’s car in response to a road rage report on Rock Prairie Road near the freeway. As of March 26th, Trevino remains jailed in lieu of a $10,000 dollar bond on a charge of evading arrest in a vehicle.
