News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team closes the weekend at home versus Arkansas Sunday afternoon in Reed Arena with first serve set for 2 p.m.
The Aggies are coming a loss to No. 23 Florida, where they fought back-and-forth in a competitive three-set match. A&M kept every frame close, and battled with the Gators as they were tied on 30 occasions throughout the fixture.
Arkansas enters the match following its first loss in league play after being swept by Texas Friday evening, 3-0. The Razorbacks hold second place in the SEC with a 4-1 conference record and are 14-3 overall on the season. Arkansas’ three losses on the year all come on the road, while the Aggies boast a strong 6-2 record when playing in front of the 12th Man.
The teams have met 18 times in their history and have each won nine games. The Aggies dominated the early point of the matchup with six wins to the Razorbacks two in their first eight meetings. Recently Arkansas has had the upper hand, claiming the last five fixtures. When playing in Reed Arena the programs are knotted at four wins each, with A&M’s last victory coming in 2018.
Through the opening six matches of conference play, the Aggie defense has been the star of the show as they rank second in both blocks per set (2.48) and opponent hitting percentage (.198). The group also averages 13.28 digs per set which is good for sixth in the league. The Razorbacks strength is on the offense, as they hold second in the SEC in assists per frame (13.06) and third in kills per set (13.83).
Ava Underwood is having a career year, as the Fulshear, Texas, native is averaging 3.84 digs per frame in league play and 3.07 a set on the season which are both three-year highs.
Proving to be a consistent weapon, Logan Lednicky recorded her sixth-straight double-digit kill outing to start conference play. The junior has logged 105 kills in the six fixtures which ranks fifth in the league, while her 4.20 average per frame is good for ninth in the SEC.
