Voices For Children, CASA Needs Volunteers

Voices For Children, CASA needs volunteers to work with children living in foster care.

Kimberly Martinez, Executive Director, says Court Appointed Special Advocates serve as a stable and healthy adult difference in the life of a child who has been removed from their home because it’s not safe.

“It’s the hardest volunteer work you can do, and it is the most rewarding you can do. If you are wanting to improve your community, not only today, but long term, this is a really great way to invest your time,” says Martinez.

In 2019, CASAs volunteered more than 10,000 hours and helped 476 children in the Brazos Valley, but Martinez says they need more help.

“We do right now have children being removed from their homes coming into the care of the State of Texas, and we don’t have CASAs for them, and that’s just not OK,” said Martinez.

Martinez says CASA volunteers usually dedicate five to eight hours a month depending on the child’s court case.

The next CASA information session is Tuesday, January 19th and the next training class starts on February first.
