Vietnam Memorial Groundbreaking Sunday

This Sunday, 43 Vietnam War casualties with Brazos Valley ties will be honored at the groundbreaking for a new monument.

President of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 957 Mike Southerland says the wooden mock-up of a future monument will include Vietnam War history and service members’ names.

Southerland says this monument will be different from the one in Veteran’s Park, becuase this is a way for the individuals to be remembered in a prominent place, with their names displayed for their children and grandchildren.

He says they are including soldiers from the Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties.

The ceremony will begin at 2:30 in front of the Clara Mounce Library in downtown Bryan with patriotic speeches, the national anthem, and at least 50 family members of those honored.
