COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M softball’s Tori Vidales was named a National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second Team All-American, the organization announced Wednesday.
Vidales’ selection is the second of her career as the La Porte, Texas, native earned third team honors as a sophomore in 2016. Vidales becomes the ninth Aggie to earn multiple All-America accolades and the first since Mel Dumezich (2011, ’12, ’13).
The award marks the 39th time a Texas A&M player has been selected to an All-American team and the 17th under head coach Jo Evans.
“I am so blessed and proud to have finished my senior season with a huge statement,” Vidales said. “I gave everything I could to the 12th Man and to be recognized for that is a huge honor. I want to thank Coach Evans, the coaching staff and the support staff for everything that they have done not just this year, but for my entire career.”
Vidales wrapped up her senior campaign with a .350 batting average and led the team in runs scored (44), home runs (14), RBI (62), slugging (.628), on-base (.456) and walks (34). The SEC All-Defensive Team first baseman held a .990 fielding percentage, recording 385 putouts and 25 assists with just four errors.
In the Gainesville Super Regional, she propelled the Aggies to a victory in game two, forcing the winner-take-all game three where she hit the go-ahead homer in the seventh.
For her career, Vidales holds the school’s career records in runs (198), RBI (219) and total bases (480) and ranks second in home runs (65), third in slugging (.694) and walks (164) and sixth in batting average (.355).
Vidales recently signed to play professionally with the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch alongside teammate Ashley Walters.
