Tuesday’s standoff involving Brazos County sheriff’s deputies at a home north of the RELLIS campus accuses a man who barricaded himself of threatening to shoot a deputy and himself.
Quoting the arrest report but deleting the profanity, 42 year old Anthony Luza Jr. yelled from the kitchen “we’re gonna XXXXXXX die here when I open this door!” Then Luza opens the door and points the barrel end of a rifle outside. That took place 30 minutes into the three hour standoff.
Luza was captured after the sheriff’s SWAT team deployed what was described as “less lethal options to subdue him.”
Deputies went to the home to arrest Luza on a warrant related to his indictment on a charge from last year of a family related terroristic threat. Deputies were also assisting child protective services on the welfare of a child.
When they arrived, Luza is accused of threatening to kill the deputies before he went back to jail. That was followed by the sound of a shotgun being racked to fire.
No one else was inside the home during the standoff. But the status of the child was not revealed in the arrest report or a sheriff’s news release.
Luza, who is in jail for the fourth time since November of last year, is held in lieu of bonds totaling $56,000 dollars. That includes charges from the standoff of aggravated assault of a public servant and possessing methamphetamine.

Multiple Brazos County sheriff’s deputies dealt with a man who barricaded himself Tuesday in his home north of the RELLIS campus.
The standoff began at 3 p.m. after deputies assisted child protective services on the welfare of a child.
The sheriff’s SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were part of the presence around the home on Luza Lane.
A news release from the sheriff’s office did not disclose the circumstances of how 42 year old Anthony Luza, Jr. was apprehended three hours later.
The news release stated no one else was inside the home, but nothing was said about the status of the child.
Luza is held in the Brazos County jail without bond after his arrest on charges from the standoff of aggravated assault of a public servant and possession of a controlled substance.
The news release does not reveal the severity of injuries to the unidentified public servant.
Luza was also arrested on warrants related to his bond from a 2018 indictment on a charge of a family related terroristic threat and a 2019 traffic offense.
According to online records, it’s the fourth time Luza has been in jail since November of last year.
