Update from the College Station fire department:

Fire investigation information from CSFD Fire Marshal’s office regarding fire at 701 Hereford Street last night:

The fire was caused by a leaking gas tank on a 650 motorcycle. The ignition source is not known.

The motorcycle had not.run in a while but then was used yesterday and filled up.

The heat was so bad that it melted part of the engine block on the motorcycle

This fire is not being considered suspicious at this time.

Original story:

Multiple 9-1-1 calls came in shortly before 3 a.m. Friday morning reporting a fire in College Station’s Southside neighborhood, south of the Texas A&M campus.

Battalion fire chief Greg Rodgers says the fire, which destroyed a two story detached garage at Hereford and Park Place, took about one hour to get under control.

The fire spread from the garage to a portion of the “L”-shaped home.

Two occupants were out of the house when the first units arrived. No one was injured.

Rodgers says CSFD firefighters were joined by one crew from Bryan on the scene. A second crew from Bryan staffed one of the CSFD stations.
