UPDATE: Preliminary Autopsy Findings on Death of Dennis Brown

Tuesday update from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office:

On Tuesday, May 19th, 2015, the Travis County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on the body of Dennis Wayne Brown III. Preliminary results indicate that there were no signs of physical injuries found in the examination. Additional tests are being conducted to determine the cause of death, these test could take 60 to 90 days to be completed.

The Brazos County Sheriff’s Investigators and the Texas Ranger continue with their investigation.

A Madisonville man held in the Brazos County jail on various charges, including the capital murder of a Bryan woman and her father last year, has died.

35 year old Dennis Wayne Brown III was being held in a one-man cell in the administrative segregation section of the detention center.

A news release from Sheriff Chris Kirk says at 11:40 a.m. this morning (Monday 5/18/2015) Brown was found unresponsive on his bunk. Medical personnel started CPR and contacted Bryan EMS, who continued CPR. Brown was pronounced dead at 12:19 p.m.

Kirk says the cause of death was not readily apparent. An internal audit has started of their procedures and the Texas Rangers will conduct an independent investigation.

The sheriff says reports will be forwarded to the Texas Attorney General’s office and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Brown was awaiting trial on charges he set a Bryan home on fire in April 2014, killing Noel Devin and her father, Thomas “Mac” Devin.
