Groundbreaking takes place this week on one major public works project in Bryan, while a second was recently approved by the city council.
A ceremony marking the start of a flood reduction effort in the area of Kemp Elementary School is Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. near the corner of West Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Harlem Street.
In another northside neighborhood, the council at its last meeting approved contracts to design rebuilding portions of Old Hearne Road, Wilhelm, and Wilkes, adding storm sewers, and creating a detention pond near Bonham Elementary on land owned by the school district.
Design of the $4 million dollar project will continue through next March.
