Update on Kyle Field Implosion

Texas A&M University System and demolition company officials met at Kyle Field’s third deck Wednesday for an update on plans for Sunday’s implosion of the stadium’s west side.

Crews from Lindamood Demolition, Manhattan/Vaughn Construction and Controlled Demolition have worked around the clock after turning the west side into a construction zone less than 24 hours after Texas A&M’s loss to LSU on Thanksgiving night.

They have stripped the west side’s first deck, removed field grass, and prepared the stadium for the implosion on Sunday morning.

Mark Louizeaux, Controlled Demolition President, said the demolition will last 17 seconds from the initial “scare charges” that are meant to scare bats and birds that have remained in the structure.

Loizeaux said nearby structures have been surveyed and are prepared for any ground shaking or motion that will come with the collapse.

Sunday’s implosion of the west side of Kyle Field has been scheduled to take place at 8 a.m.
