UPDATE: Five More File For B/CS City Council Seats

Update:

There is a second contested race in this November’s election for a position on the College Station city council.

The latest to file for the place four seat is Joe Guerra, Jr. His opponent is Barry Moore.

They are seeking to fill the remainder of the term of John Nichols, which ends in 2018.

Nichols, who is running for College Station mayor, is opposed by fellow councilman Karl Mooney.

Original story:

Both incumbent members of the Bryan city council eligible to run again have filed for re-election.

Al Saenz, who represents single member district one, will be opposed by Reuben Marin. Saenz was on the council between 2007 and 2010 and returned in 2013.

Also filing for a second term today was Rafael Pena. The councilman representing single member district two, is opposed by Prentiss Madison. Pena lists his residence on Sandy Point Road, though earlier this year he moved to his mother’s house in another district because he was remodeling his home. WTAW News has sent Pena a text and an e-mail asking if he has returned to his Sandy Point residence and if not if he has an idea of when the remodeling will be done.

Thursday night, the College Station city council approved special elections in November for two positions that opened when John Nichols and Karl Mooney decided to run for mayor. That was followed by candidates filing for those positions. Seeking to serve the remainder of Nichols’ term…through 2018…is Barry Moore. Filing for the remainder of Mooney’s term…through next year…is Linda Harvell.

The deadline to file for the College Station special elections is August 25th. The deadline for the remaining races in Bryan and College Station is August 22nd.
