UPDATE: Fire At CHI-St. Joseph Regional Hospital’s Oncology Unit Leads To Arson Arrest

A Brenham woman is in the Brazos County jail after admitting setting a fire inside CHI-St. Joseph Regional Hospital’s oncology unit Sunday afternoon.

According to the Bryan police arrest report, 58 year old Wendy Eilers told a nurse she used a lighter to ignite bed linens because she was being held against her will. And she told another employee the nurses were ignoring her.

Bryan firefighters recovered two lighters, one from a bedside table and another from her purse.

CHI reported the unit, which was evacuated, was reopened after it was cleaned.

No one was injured, and the hospital reported the extent of damage was to some furniture.

Bryan firefighters are investigating a Sunday afternoon fire at the CHI-St. Joseph Regional Hospital oncology unit.

BFD and the hospital reported employees put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

The hospital reported the fire, which was contained to one room, resulted in minor damage to some furniture.

All patients in the unit were evacuated, and the area is expected to reopen Monday morning after it is cleaned.
