UPDATE: CS Council Approves Construction Contract For Lick Creek Trail

Update May 28 2015:

The College Station city council approved the contract as submitted last week.

Those voting for the contract were Nancy Berry, Karl Mooney, John Nichols, Blanche Brick, and Steve Aldrich.

Voting against was James Benham.

Julie Schultz was out of town and did not participate.

There was no discussion prior to awarding the contract.

According to Public Works Director Donald Harmon, construction would start in about a month. Completion is expected in the summer of 2016.

Original story May 19 2015:

Approved by College Station voters in 2008, the city council is still not ready to move ahead with building a hike and bike trail connecting two parks.

James Benham led a 5-2 vote Monday night to postpone awarding a more than $3 million dollar construction contract.

Benham said with city streets falling apart, he couldn’t support a million dollar a mile path between Lick Creek and Creek View Parks.

John Nichols wanted to proceed with building the trail as designed and in the spirit of how the bond issue was promoted seven years ago.

Steve Aldrich joined Nichols in voting against the delay. Voting with Benham were Nancy Berry, Blanche Brick, Julie Schultz, and Karl Mooney.
