A Navasota man is headed to prison for the next five years for Family Violence Assault and continued violation of protective orders. Brazos County District Attorney Media Release 1/05/2026: On October 29, 2026, Ronnie Wayne Rice, Jr., 32, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for Assault Family Violence with a Prior Conviction and Continuous Violation of Bond Conditions. The charges stem from a July 8, 2024, incident where Rice attacked his ex-girlfriend by punching her in the shoulder and legs. The victim reported the attack to police two days later, and officers saw clear bruising where she had been hit. Rice ran away when he learned the police were called. Emergency medical workers treated the victim at the scene and took her to the hospital for further care. After Rice was arrested, Judge Nunn set strict bond conditions that legally banned him from contacting or communicating with the victim. Despite these court orders, Rice ignored the rules and contacted her again on February 18, 2025, and February 28, 2025. Because he broke the protective court order twice within a 12-month period, he was charged with Continuous Violation of Bond Conditions. The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office praised the Bryan Police Department for their diligent investigative work to enforce these orders and ensure victims remain protected from ongoing harm. Assistant District Attorney Kevin Capps prosecuted the case, working alongside District Attorney’s Office Investigator Mike Johse and Victim Assistance Coordinator Shae Cooks. “Bond conditions in domestic violence cases are not optional rules—they are critical legal boundaries meant to shield victims from fear, harassment, and further harm. Our local law enforcement officers work tirelessly to monitor compliance and enforce these orders so that survivors can feel safe in their daily lives. Domestic violence will never be tolerated as a way to control others, and anyone who defies court orders will face real prison time in our community.” — Kevin Capps, Assistant District Attorney Got a news tip? e-mail us at news@wtaw.com, text us at (979) 695-1620, or reach out on Facebook or Twitter/X.
