The president of Texas A&M University-Commerce (TAMUC) died early Friday morning.
Dr. Dan Jones had been at the A&M system institution since July 2008, and before that was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Texas A&M International from 2003-2008.
According to the TAMUC Facebook page, all campus locations were closed at noon on Friday and flags were lowered to half-staff.
The cause of death has not been announced.
According to the university’s student news site The East Texan, Dr. Jones was hospitalized on April 16. Students were invited to sign cards the following week.
Dr. Jones was released from the hospital in time to be in College Station this past Wednesday for the A&M system board of regents meeting.
As of Friday evening, according to the TAMUC Facebook page, arrangements are pending and the family requests both privacy and prayers at this time.
