TX Company Pleads Guilty in NJ Case

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) _ The owner of a Texas-based transportation company has pleaded guilty in New Jersey to smuggling illegal immigrants to the East Coast.

Thirty-six-year-old Gaspar Campos of Houston pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Newark to one count of conspiracy to transport illegal aliens and two counts of transporting illegal aliens.

Campos admitted that his company, Transportes Latinos, worked with two human smugglers who brought people across the border from Mexico. Company van drivers then took the immigrants to East Coast destinations including New Jersey and New York.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 9. Campos faces up to 10 years in prison on each count, although the actual penalty is likely to be less under federal sentencing guidelines.
