Two Crashes Closes Southbound Freeway at Briarcrest

Bryan Police and Fire responded to a pair of crashes Wednesday afternoon shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the freeway south of the Briarcrest exit.

Southbound freeway traffic had to exit at the William Joel Bryan/Boonville exit for about one hour.

The first wreck involved the driver of a Honda Accord who was distracted by a passenger. The car left the roadway and struck a road sign. Both occupants were complaining of pain but did not receive any medical treatment. The driver, Humberto Sanchez age 20 of Bryan, was cited for fail to maintain a single lane.

The second wreck, unrelated to the first, involved a black Chevy truck that rear-ended a green Ford pickup, which was pushed into a Ford SUV. The green Ford caught fire and citizens helped the driver from the vehicle. The driver of the green Ford was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicle did not receive medical treatment. The driver of the black truck, 40 year old Thomas Baca of College Station, was cited for fail to control speed.

Police did not release any other identities.
