Since 1987, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has recognized radio stations for year round community service.
This year marks the tenth time since 2010 that WTAW is selected as a finalist for the NAB’s Crystal Award.
WTAW is one of two Bryan Broadcasting stations selected among this year’s 50 finalists.
This is Candy 95’s ninth time as a finalist…with wins in 2012, 2016, and 2019.
Ten Crystal Award winners will be announced during the annual NAB show in Las Vegas in April.
College Station police searching a home in Bryan Thursday (November 21) finds more than two pounds of marijuana and 126 ecstasy pills. The couple who lives in the home, 43 year old John Pilkey and 36 year old Bobbie Jones, were arrested for possessing the drugs with the intent to sell. WTAW News has CSPD the estimated street value of the drugs that were seized. CSPD arrest reports also says Jones’s minor son assisted in weighing the marijuana and collecting money from selling marijuana. The arrest reports do not say who has custody of the juvenile. As of November 22, Pilkey and Jones remain in jail in lieu of bonds totaling $95,000 dollars each.
A Bryan man’s 14th trip to jail since April 2023 comes after a College Station police officer sees him run two stop signs in the Northgate district about 30 minutes after the bars closed Friday morning (November 22). The CSPD arrest report also says the officer estimated the car going at least 50 miles per hour. 20 year old Frederick Hall III, who the officer wrote is a frequent visitor to Northgate, spent a short time in jail before posting bond totaling $4,000 dollars on charges of reckless driving and driving with an invalid license with prior convictions. Online court records shows Hall is awaiting six trials on misdemeanor charges. Three trials are for driving with an invalid license with prior convictions that took place in August and October 2024, two are for failing to identify himself to police in April and June of 2024, and one is for not having insurance in May 2024.
