Bryan police and federal prison officials are investigating gunfire in a neighborhood next to the federal women’s prison that took place Saturday (August 9) around one in the morning.
A BPD news release said no one was hurt and no arrests followed an exchange of gunfire by two groups of people in the area of 21st and Dansby.
BPD reports a prison guard fired their gun after seeing someone on the other side of a fence line who was armed.
BPD says several vehicles and a home were hit.
A federal prison spokesperson provided WTAW News no additional information.

On August 9th, 2025, at approximately 1:08 a.m., Bryan Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Dansby Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a group of individuals fired multiple shots from the 1000 block of East 21st Street towards a group of people sitting on the front porch of a residence in the 700 block of Dansby. The individuals on the porch returned fire toward the group on East 21st Street.
The west fence line of the Bryan Federal Prison Camp runs parallel to the 1000 block of East 21st Street. A federal prison guard, responding to the sound of gunfire, approached the fence line and observed an armed individual involved in the shots fired. Believing the individual posed a threat, the guard discharged their weapon.
Gunfire struck a residence and a vehicle in the 700 block of Dansby, as well as several vehicles in the 1000 block of East 21st Street. No injuries were reported during the preliminary investigation.
The Bryan Police Department is actively investigating the shots fired in the 700 block of Dansby and the 1000 block of East 21st Street. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Police Department at (979) 209-5300.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) can confirm that an active shooter incident occurred at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan, in Bryan, Texas, on August 9, 2025, at approximately 1:15 a.m.
While an active investigation is ongoing, preliminary information indicates the shooting started off grounds between two rival gang members and was not related to FPC Bryan.
There were no injuries to staff or inmates.
