Twinkie Maker Moving to Texas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Kansas City-based maker of Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread is moving its headquarters to Dallas after emerging from bankruptcy.

Interstate Bakeries Corp. spokesman Lew Phelps said Tuesday that the move will involve about 10 top executives and their support staff.

He says the transfer will take place gradually over the next several months. Once completed, about 600 workers will remain in the Kansas City-area, including 200 at the company’s current headquarters.

The move is intended to make it easier to recruit experienced senior-level executives. Phelps says Dallas is home to many corporations in the consumer packaged goods industry, unlike Kansas City.

Phelps expects the overall employment levels in Kansas City will remain unchanged because the company is ending a hiring freeze after emerging from bankruptcy earlier this month.
