Tuition Increases Approved at Blinn for 2012-2013

Declining state revenue means another tuition increase at Blinn College.

Blinn spokesman Brandon Webb says next year’s increase is another $8 a credit hour for those who live outside Washington County. Webb says that will be less than this year’s out of district rate for five neighboring community colleges.

In-district tuition, which is subsidized by Washington County property taxes, will increase $2 per credit hour.

And for all students there’s a fee increase of $2 dollars per semester.

Another way to look at next year’s prices, unaminously approved by Blinn’s Board of Trustees:

In-District Tuition increased from $40.00 to $42.00 per credit hour.
Out-of-District Tuition increased from $81.00 to $89.00 per credit hour.
Non-Resident Tuition increased from $159.00 to $167.00 per credit hour.
General Fees increased from $32.00 to $34.00 per credit hour.

Webb says next year’s out-of-district tuition and fees, $123 per credit hour, compares to this year’s statewide average of $125 and is less than this year’s rates at five nearby community colleges ($127 at Victoria, $129 at Lone Star, $132 at Wharton, $140 at Houston, and $154 at Temple.)

Brandon Webb visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
