Congressman Bill Flores of Bryan and his wife Gina were on a train carrying dozens of GOP lawmakers to a Republican policy retreat Wednesday when it struck a garbage truck.
Flores says the arms of the railroad crossing were down, so it appears the driver of the truck ignored the crossing arms. There were two people on the back of the truck, one died at the scene, the other died at the hospital.
Flores says the driver of the truck did not appear to have life threatening injuries.
Flores says the locomotive did derail after impact and the engineers were injured along with four others on the train.
The uninjured passengers were transported to buses for the rest of their trip.
