Traffic Stops & Unattended Gunfire Lead To Arrests

An Iola man awaiting five criminal trials in Brazos County was arrested Friday afternoon in College Station on multiple charges. According to the arrest report, the car driven by 29 year old Samuel Herrera was stopped because the temporary tag belonged to a SUV. While speaking with the driver, the officer spotted two large folding knives and a pipe that the driver said was used to smoke marijuana. That led to a search of the car and the seizure of a handgun from under the driver’s seat and baggies of crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. A check of Herrera’s driving record showed ten active suspensions. According to online jail records, Herrera is held on bonds totaling $21,400 on the new charges. That’s in addition to pending trials on traffic and drug charges from arrests in May, June, and July.

A Bryan man with three prior drunk driving convictions was arrested for DWI and possession of marijuana in College Station early Saturday morning by a Bryan policeman. According to the arrest report, the BPD officer exited the southbound freeway at Harvey Road with the intent of returning on the freeway northbound when he spotted a SUV weaving in the lanes of the frontage road then going through an intersection before the red light turned to green. After stopping the SUV, the officer learned the driver was wanted for arrest warrants from Bryan for misdemeanor theft and driving with an invalid license. According to the arrest report, the driver handed the officer a baggie of marijuana, the officer spotted an open can of beer that was cool to the touch, and the driver failed tests that indicated he was intoxicated. According to online jail records, 52 year old Charlie Guerra will be in jail until December 6 from the arrest warrants. And the bonds on the new charges total $28,000 dollars. According to online court records, Guerra has prior DWI convictions in 2013, 1996, and 1995.

College Station police responded to a report of gunfire early Saturday morning in the 2000 block of Longmire Court, which is between Bee Creek Park and Harvey Mitchell Parkway. According to the arrest report, officers found a man outside an apartment building who said he was looking for possible damage after firing a shotgun inside his apartment. The man said he was sitting on his couch and checking the rounds he had loaded into his shotgun just after 4 in the morning, and had the butt end of the shotgun in between his legs and the muzzle pointing down the hallway when he accidentally fired a shot. The round went through a bedroom door, missing his girlfriend and their five year old daughter, both who were asleep. 30 year old Michael Crow was arrested for deadly conduct after officers concluded he was reckless while handling a loaded shotgun. Crow is out of jail after posting a $4,000 dollar bond.
