TIGERS GOING TO STATE!!!

With back-to-back stellar pitching performances and some timely hitting, the A&M Consolidated Tigers are headed back to the State 5A Baseball Final Four for the first time in 22 years.

In front of another crowd of 2,000+ fans at Bienski Stadium in Mumford, the Tigers got the sweep of the best of three series and beat the Bryan Vikings 3-1 to win the Region II title, which they will take to Round Rock’s Dell Diamond next Friday for a State Semi-Final game. Consol is the only one of the four Regionals that’s been decided as the other three will end today or tomorrow.

District Champ Bryan finishes its best season in 50 years at 29-9.

Ford Moore threw six stellar innings for the Tigers but perhaps his best was the top of the sixth with a Houdini-type escape. Bryan got two doubles to cut Consol’s lead to 3-1 and a Tiger error put Vikings at second and third with no outs. But Moore coaxed a ground-out, a strikeout and a ground-out to end the threat. Moore got the win to go to 10-0 for the year.

For a second straight game, Seth Holbert came on to get the save in the top of the seventh, getting two quick outs and then getting behind the next batter 3-0 before finding his groove.
