A Bryan policeman hears gunfire Saturday (October 25) at 3:30 in the morning while responding to a burglary alarm.

That leads to chasing a car on the city’s west side at speeds reaching 70 miles per hour.

The pursuit ended when the car struck the guy wires of a power pole near 28th and Palasota.

BPD arrest reports do not indicate anyone or anything was hit by the gunfire. But officers found two handguns.

The driver and two passengers were arrested.

The arrest report says the front seat passenger, 23 year old Adam Arenas of Bryan, admitted to firing a gun then throwing the gun out of the window. Arenas remains jailed as of Tuesday (October 28) on a charge of evidence tampering and a warrant for violating probation in a 2021 burglary of a habitation. Bonds on those charges totals $40,000 dollars.

The driver, 25 year old Isaiah Newton of Bryan, is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $7,000 dollars after he was arrested for evading and DWI.

A rear seat passenger, 27 year old Ares DeLeon of Bryan, was arrested on two warrants from charges in 2021 of not having a drivers license and disregarding a stop sign. DeLeon remains jailed as of Tuesday (October 28) in lieu paying fines and court costs totaling $887.10.
